6 HEALTHY SUBSTITUTES TO THE HARMFUL WHITE SUGAR!

Consume with moderation like any healthy foods!

1. Organic raw honey (cold pressed, unpasteurised)

- It contains all the essential minerals necessary for sustaining life.

- It contains all the substances necessary to sustain life (including enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and water).

- It is the only food that contains “pinocembrin”, an antioxidant associated with improved brain functioning.

- It is antiviral and antifungal.

- It provides the body with an immediate energy boost from its glucose but also provides sustained energy

from its fructose.

- Its glycemic index is 55.

- It’s best if you buy locally grown organic raw honey whenever you can, since it’s produced by bees

which are from the environment and will contain the immune stimulating properties

needed for your body to adapt to its environment.

- Since raw honey contains a natural presence of botulinum

endospores, do not give it to infants under one year old, as their

intestinal track is not mature enough to inhibit the growth of

clostridium botulinum.

2. Date sugar

- It is dried dates pulverised into powder! So it is almost a whole food !

- It is good source of potassium, magnesium, iron, six essential B vitamins, including folate and

pantothenic acid. It also contains polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that protects against cellular damage,

along with beneficial phytoestrogens

- Its glycemic index is around 46.

3. Stevia

- It is derived from the Stevia rebaudiana plant that contains little

to no calories or carbs.

- Studies have shown that stevia can reduce blood pressure slightly, lower blood glucose and insulin

levels in diabetics and healthy subjects, and fight inflammation.

- has a sweetening power about 300 times higher than white sugar.

- Its glycemic index is 0.

- Disadvantages of using stevia:

It doesn’t taste much like sugar and has a somewhat bitter aftertaste.

It May cause digestive issues for some.

4. Xylitol

-It looks and tastes just like white sugar.

-9 teaspoons of xylitol has the same effect on your blood sugar as 1 teaspoon of white sugar.

- Its glycemic index is 8 which is very low and can consequently be used by diabetics.

- It has shown to effectively prevent tooth decay by acting as an antibacterial agent against organisms that

cause cavities. Bacteria that feed off xylitol become unable to stick to teeth and cause rotting.

- Use in moderation as if you have too much you will get loose bowels!

5. Blackstrap molasses

- It contains vital vitamins and minerals, such as potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B6 and

selenium.

- Its glycemic index is 55

6. Monk fruit sweetener

- It is a natural sweetener that’s 100–250 times sweeter than white sugar but contains no

calories or carbs.

- Its glycemic index is 0.

- It may act as an antioxidant and fight inflammation.

- It may improve blood sugar regulation.

- Drawback: it tends to have an unusual taste and bitter aftertaste.
